宏都拉斯隊史3度打進世界盃，但至今一勝難求，這次在巴西前景也頗不樂觀，不但淘汰機率極高，贏球機會也偏低。

宏都拉斯所在的E組，有法國、瑞士與厄瓜多，賽前被評估為戰局最明朗的一組，十六強門票會由法國、瑞士拿走。

厄瓜多在E組還有攪局能力，而宏都拉斯是爐主大熱門，首戰對法國知名的bet365 賭盤開出1賠13，而宏都拉斯0：3輸球，與厄瓜多、瑞士一戰賭盤也不看好。

宏都拉斯1982年西班牙世界盃首度進軍世界盃，在有西班牙、南斯拉夫與北愛爾蘭的E組以2和1敗分組墊底。

上屆世界盃所在的H組有西班牙、智利與瑞士，除踢和瑞士外，另兩戰都吞下敗仗，此次要有所突破，得再加把勁。
